double page spread development#1
I chose this image as the main image for my double page spread. I chose it because its a very clear and inviting image, the model looks sophisticated and this will draw the reader in to read the article. The models clothes match the colour scheme of the magazine. This sharp red colour contrasts well against the white background, this gives the page a professional look.
Contents page development #1
I have started designing my contents page. I have began by choosing a bold font for the title, I chose from a range of font but think this best suits the contents page as it is large and this will catch the readers attention to the page. I have chose the colours red and white as they are consistant and will keep the magazine looking mature.
Front cover development #1
I have started to create my front cover I first started by choosing a image then editing it, I chose this image of my model because there is a eye line match and she looks sophisticated, also the image is striking and will the also contrast with the colours I want for the masthead and sell lines. It took a while for me to get the image on the page as I had to do alot of editing to ensure it was at the best quality it could be. I then chose a font from the selection of fonts that I have researched to use for the masthead, the font I chose was 'Muro'. I chose the font 'Muro' because it is bold and will stand out from the rest. It took a while to edit the image because of the models hair so it took a few attempts to make it right. I still need to add other conventions such as sell lines etc.

Photoshoot costume and makeup
Before taking the actual images that I would use for the magazine a lot of preparation and planning took place to get the models right for the photo-shoot. I brought a selection of clothes and often had intervals throughout the shoot so that the models could change into something else. Before I started taking photos I carefully applied makeup to my model and styled her hair. We stopped frequently so that I could re do hair so that it was neat and do touch ups on the models makeup. This was to make sure that all of the photos were perfect and consistent. By changing the outfit of my model a few times this meant at the end when choosing the final images I had a few options to choose from. For this photo-shoot I had a few friends help me, this was very beneficial as it meant they could do some of the touch ups whilst I concentrated on taking the images.

preliminary task
For the preliminary task I had to create a front cover and contents page for a college magazine. I used all the conventions of a normal magazine.
I was giving a grade D for this work. The feed back that I was given from my teacher was that I had used a good colour scheme, the image for the front cover was of a good quality, I have included all the conventions of the front cover and contents page. The areas of improvement were for the contents page, I didn't use space correctly, I should have adjusted the layout to make everything look spaciously fluid.

last years work
I looked at last years work and chose five magazines to outline strengths, weaknesses and a grade. I did this so that I could learn what the negative things of magazines are to make sure I avoided them and to find out what the strengths were so that I could include them in my own magazine. The things which I found were good good layout of the magazine, bold fonts for the masthead and consistent colour. The weaknesses of the magazine were too many different fonts, quality of the images and amount of images.
Jarvis Cocker
I created a front cover for a music magazine with Jarvis Cocker as the cover image. To help me produce this magazine I had to research his music and his background, this helped me to look for other bands of the same genre to feature in the magazine. Because the magazine is for rock music I tried to make the colour scheme appropriate. I chose red and black, not only do these colours stand out but they are gender neutral colours which will widen the audience for the magazine. I used the title "pitch" as it is not specific to any genre of magazine and works well with music. I will be using this name for the masthead of my final product as it works very well with music.I have put in all the classic conventions of a front cover magazine, the date, masthead, barcode etc.
